Een swingende en uitbundige Zuid-Afrikaanse muziekbelevenis. Puur en oprecht.
South African Road Trip komt Londen verwarmen met vrolijke songs, kwetsbare nummers, harmonieuze samenzang en opzwepende dans en muziek. Gebracht door de talentvolle mannen van het bekende Khayelitsha United Mambazo Choir, meerdere Xhosa zangeressen én Zuid-Afrikaanse muzikanten. Oogstrelende kostuums en een prachtig videodecor, met mini docu’s over het dagelijkse leven van de koorleden, maken het plaatje compleet.
Bijzonder zijn de indringende, persoonlijke verhalen van de koorleden. Zij vertellen openhartig over hun leven in de township, een leven dat zo anders is maar toch ook zoveel overeenkomsten vertoont met dat van ons. Geboorte, liefde, dood: we maken het allemaal mee. Plezier, verdriet, hoop: het zijn universele gevoelens. Maar waar hoop je op als het perspectief op echte vooruitgang in je township klein is? Ubuntu, ‘ik ben omdat wij zijn’, is het credo dat de cast uitdraagt, een Afrikaanse Xhosa-levenswijze die ervan uitgaat dat alle mensen met elkaar verbonden zijn.
Het publiek kan zich anderhalf uur lang onderdompelen in een pure en oprechte Zuid-Afrikaanse belevenis. Hartverwarmend!
